MLA Citation Guide

This is a guide to citing sources commonly used in academic papers in MLA Style (9th ed., 2021). For more information see the MLA Handbook (available in the Selkirk Library). Visit the MLA Style Center website at https://style.mla.org/

When you use another person's words, ideas, or images in your paper you must cite (i.e. credit) the source. This is true even when you paraphrase. Avoid plagiarism by citing all of your sources.

In-text citations are brief credits in the body of a paper. Works Cited is a complete list of all the sources cited in a paper. The in-text citations direct readers to the works cited list for complete information about the sources used.
